Restoration of the street façade of a heritage building
- Status: Completed
- Location: Cape Town, South Africa
This project was the restoration of the street façade of an existing heritage building, a Victorian manor house in the city bowl for which Vernon Collis & Associates provided engineering and architectural services.
The front double storey colonnade and balcony was in a state of disrepair and had to be removed to be re-built.
Research into the original design enabled restoration of some the original detailing that had been lost in the previous renovations. The roof gables were supported on the colonnade and had to be supported on a carefully designed scaffolding structure which would also allow the work to continue around it.
The restored façade has extended the life of this beautiful heritage home for another generation at least.
